What are remote locations and extreme remote locations?

Remote locations are those where the medical evacuation of a injured or ill person to a hospital cannot be guaranteed within 4 hours.

Extreme remote locations are sites where medical evacuation to a hospital can never be achieved within 4 hours, even in the best of circumstances.

Several factors affect evacuation time (and thus the “remoteness” of a location). These include geographical distances, available transportation options, transportation infrastructure, communication, weather, and security (e.g. hostilities).
